Multiple Teams · CPA 8th Grader Derrick Mitchell Catches the Eye of USA Baseball

Chandler Prep 8th grader Derrick Mitchell has had quite a summer on the baseball diamond. Not only has Mitchell made his name known on the local baseball scene, he is now garnering attention on a national level as well. Derrick is one of a few players from around the United States training for a spot on the 14U National Development Team for 2018. Last week included a trip to the USA Baseball Training Facility in Cary, NC. Derrick helped his team, the Southwest Region, to the championship title. He hit a home run and pitching four innings to earn the win in the final. The Southwest team was made up of top players from New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona. Along with last week’s performance, Derrick’s candidacy is based on his showcases at the 14U West National Team ID Series this past March as part of the Wilson Sandlot 14U team. Mitchell was recently invited to attend the International Power Showcase Home Run Derby that will take place in Dallas, TX in November and in Miami, FL in December. Other trips where Derrick excelled this past summer included the Travel Ball National Championships in Atlanta, GA, and the National Youth Baseball Championships in Yaphank, NY. Several diamond analysts coined Derrick as one of the top 12U baseball players in the country,

Last year as a 7th grader, Derrick was chosen as the MVP of the Chandler Prep middle school “A” team, coached by Martin Vilaboy. He helped lead the Titans to the GHMSL final. Derrick is the son of Deonne and Donya Mitchell.
